Welcome to My Alaska Trip

It only takes an afternoon to see how Alaska is very different from the rest of the USA. Alaskans are proud of their state and as you get away from Anchorage, you may find that there is a certain charm and respite in exploring the less developed side of Alaska. Alaskans are kind and helpful, and they won’t leave you in despair, but they also are very protective of the Alaskan way of life, their heritage, and are cautious of letting it be overrun by tourism. That’s where we come in!

My Alaska Trip is all about helping visitors experience the beauty and fun of the state while not having a lasting negative impact on either the environment or the people who call it home. Problems like pollution, traffic, housing shortage and supply issues can easily have an effect on such a sparsely populated or developed place. Alaska is awesome, and the towns are remarkable, but it is delicate.

EPIC Alaska Adventures

Everyone has a different way they like to explore. We enjoy it all, from independent road trips to flightseeing or glacier cruises. And we work with some awesome Alaskans to share epic adventures. Some of our favorite travel partners are Rust’s Flying Service, UnCruise Adventures and Pursuit Alaska. We’ve worked with these particular companies because of the travel experiences they’re able to offer visitors all while being mindful of how special Alaska is.

Where to Stay in Alaska

We are sure to write about each place we stay THAT WE LIKE as we go from town to town and park to park, so if you’re wondering where to stay as you explore Alaska, we’ve got suggestions! When we’re booking hotels we look at ranges of dates to find the best rates, keeping our destinations flexible since we’ll have to drive all over anyways.

If you’d like to check out all of our recommendations for where to stay in Alaska, whether it be cool lodges or easy accommodations in Anchorage, we have lots of reviews you can browse to see if something is a good fit for your trip. Check out Alaska lodging reviews here

Diversity and LGBTQ+ Travel in Alaska

Getting to visit and explore Alaska appeals to a diverse group of people, including the LGBTQ+ community. As somebody who’s worked in tourism throughout Alaska and who travels a lot with my same-sex spouse and our kids, I have always felt comfortable and welcome all around the state, from the cruise ports to the Interior. Towns like Juneau and Valdez make inclusivity a clear part of their community, and visibility during public events or even just the storefronts you walk by reinforce this feeling. With inclusion comes safety, which many LGBTQ+ travelers think about continually when visiting any place that seems more remote or simply not metropolitan. Alaska never fails to surprise me with its diversity and inclusion both in regular life and within tourism operations. It’s why we encourage others in the LGBTQ+ community to visit and find a part of Alaska that speaks to them and makes them feel welcome.
