The Lakefront Millennium Hotel has been an Anchorage staple for 20+ years. Located just off Lake Hood near the Ted Stevens International Airport, the Millennium Hotel is nice, but not fancy. It’s quiet, but not sleepy. It’s Alaskan, but also with some great conveniences. If you want to stay in Anchorage but don’t need to be downtown, staying at the Lakefront Millennium is a good choice, especially if you’re arriving on a late flight.
We’ve got the full scoop on staying at the Lakefront Millennium Hotel in Anchorage, and our review includes dining at both of their restaurants, so check it out and see if it’s right for you. Why Choose the Anchorage Lakefront
The Millennium Lakefront Hotel has been the go-to hotel for being close to the airport, but it’s also a nice home base of your having an Anchorage based vacation. It’s the closest hotel to the Lake Hood floatplane area, which is awesome if you’re visiting Katmai or Lake Clark National Park, but also a lot of other sightseeing flights to Prince William Sound and such from there. We like going out with Rust’s Flying Service and they leave from right here near the hotel.
It’s not directly downtown, so it’s pretty quiet and with the easy exit out of Anchorage it’s a great place to be based out of. I also like how convenient the Millennium Lakefront Hotel is with its amenities and on-property dining. I have to travel to Anchorage for work a lot so spend a lot of time in my hotel room and onsite working on my laptop. The lobby and public spaces here are easy for being able to do work if you must (I know, if you’re in Alaska you should be exploring), and the setting is quiet and very Alaskan. Also, because the Millennium Lakefront Hotel is built for conferences, there are plenty of meeting rooms and resources if you need anything while you’re staying.
Having said all that, let’s get back into vacation mode and reasons you may enjoy staying at the Millennium Lakefront Hotel: good sized rooms, easy (and good) breakfast, lounge for the end of the day, work space if you need it, awesome location for an easy arrival or for seaplane flights, easy access to the Seward and Glenn Highways. If you can get a good deal on a stay, it’s very worth it to be based out of the Millennium Lakefront Hotel for your Anchorage visit.

Room Options at the Millennium Lakefront Hotel
There are two basic room types you can choose from at the Anchorage Millennium Lakefront Hotel: Deluxe Rooms or Suites. Deluxe rooms come in either two queens or a king, and there’s room for a rollaway bed if needed (in the king room). The other room type is the suite, which is setup with a bedroom space, living room and dining area. Even though the suites are a little more than twice the size of the deluxe rooms, they still aren’t setup to sleep 4 or more people.
If you’re a family visiting Anchorage and choosing the Millennium Lakefront Hotel, you’re best option is the two queen deluxe room. Besides the bed arrangement, the other element you can specifically book is the view type. Being set on Lake Hood, you can book rooms that have a lake view or just run of house. If you get a lake view room and you’re hanging out during the day, you can watch the seaplanes take off from your room, which is pretty cool.

Anchorage Lakefront Hotel Amenities
The Millennium Lakefront Hotel in Anchorage has a few nice amenities that add to staying there. First off, the fitness center is nice to have access to, albeit a bit dated. There is a cardio equipment room and a weightlifting area, and while neither is fancy they do the trick is your trying to stay on you of healthy habits while you’re traveling in Alaska.
There are lots of conference and meeting rooms at the Millennium Lakefront Hotel as well, which are great if you are planning a function of sorts or if you have to have a working day while you’re on vacation. I also mentioned that there is ample public space and comfy couches in the lobby if you need to either do some work from the hotel or if you’re meeting a friend for a drink.
Unfortunately, there is no swimming pool at the Anchorage Lakefront Hotel, but hopefully you’ll be wonderfully busy during your stay that you won’t even notice.

Restaurants at the Anchorage Millennium Lakefront Hotel
I like the dining at the Anchorage Lakefront Millennium Hotel. There are three connected restaurants: The Flying Machine (breakfast service), the Fancy Moose Lounge (lunch, dinner and drinks), and the Deck at Lake Hood (seasonal, restaurant menu and cocktails). Some room rates will include breakfast at the Flying Machine, and it’s actually pretty great. I would say that their biscuits and gravy is nearly as good as Snow City Cafe, but still not quite. See the breakfast menu here.
Lunch and dinner at the Fancy Moose Lounge is standard pub fare, but in a totally Alaskan setting, from the taxidermy all around to the rough around the edges service. It’s kind of perfect. Out on the patio, the Deck at Lake Hood, it’s nearly the same menu as in the Fancy Moose, and it’s a great spot for summertime happy hour. Fancy Moose Lounge menu here. The Deck at Lake Hood menu here.
Room service is not offered by any of the restaurants, but you can always order your food to-go and bring it back to your room.

Anchorage Lakefront Hotel Parking and Airport Shuttle
Getting to the Millennium Lakefront Hotel in Anchorage is ready when you land at Ted Stevens International Airport (ANC). It’s a simple five minute drive, and then parking at the hotel is easy. There is also a free airport shuttle provided by the hotel that runs 24 hours a day. If you are already checked in and need to depart to the airport, be sure that you inform the front desk so they can save you a spot (but they constantly run shuttles). The Millennium is a large hotel, but wondering via the main entrance where the elevators are is ideal. Upon check in be sure to get some instructions for getting to your room, and if another entrance is better for you, they’ll advise if you should park somewhere different for the duration of your stay.

More Things to do in Anchorage
I think Anchorage is a great city to visit, whether it’s the main area you choose to visit on your Alaska trip or it’s the jumping off point for an epic Alaska road adventure. Anchorage has changed a lot in the last 25 years (I still remember my first visit) and it’s become a city with great dining, interesting things to do within the city, and of course incredible nature just beyond downtown.
A visit to Anchorage needs to include activities like the Alaska Native Heritage Center, visiting Kincaid park for walking and wildlife watching, and enjoying some hiking outside of town. It’s really easy to add activities to your Anchorage visit both down on the Turnagain Arm (Seward Highway) or in Chugach State Park (Eklutna Lake and Thunderbird Falls). If you’re ever bored in Anchorage, you’re not paying attention.
Here are some things to do in Anchorage that can be added to part of your day when you visit, just in case you don’t have lots of time:
- Anchorage Museum
- Alaska Native Heritage Center
- rent bikes for the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail
- watch for beluga whales at the Anchorage Small Boat Launch
- day trip to Eklutna Lake and town site
- day trip to Portage or Whittier for a Prince William Sound adventure

Where to Eat in Anchorage
Let’s assume that you’re staying in the downtown area of Anchorage and you’re looking for a great meal. Well, there are lots of choices, but I’ve picked my favorites that are both solid Anchorage standards and are new and awesome.
- Snow City Cafe – the best breakfast in Anchorage, love the biscuits and gravy
- Fire Island Rustic Bakeshop – bakery, breakfast, lunch and cool shops
- F Street Station – vintage Anchorage with delicious food. And a cheese block.
- 49th State Brewing – busy but really good food and beer
- Tequila 61 – modern and trendy Mexican favorites w/ great cocktails
- Whisky & Ramen – fantastic Asian fusion food and craft cocktails
- Double Shovel Cider Co – not downtown, but it’s worth the visit for awesome ciders
Where to Stay in Anchorage
When you’re looking for a hotel in Anchorage, you’ll see that the city is broken into several areas with hotels mostly being in downtown, midtown and at the airport. If you’re just here for one night, any area will do, but for several days, downtown is the best area to stay because it’s such a walkable city. I enjoy staying in the hub of Anchorage activities because there are lots of things to do, restaurants and easy access to biking routes and the Alaska Railroad. Check out the options below.
