When you’re planning your time in Anchorage, it’s nice to be able to stay somewhere that’s walking distance to most of the activities. The Hilton Anchorage is in a great location, perfect for being able to walk to anything downtown, for easy access to the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, and even for launching your Alaska trip via the Alaska Railroad. We’ve got the information for planning a great stay at the Hilton Anchorage and tips for how to spend several days here exploring the Anchorage area.
If you have any questions about staying at the Hilton Anchorage or actually need a different recommendation, please leave a comment or send a note. We have lots to share and are happy to help other plan their Alaska adventures.
Highlights of Staying at the Hilton Anchorage
When it comes to having a view, the Hilton Anchorage is one of the tallest buildings in the city, so you’ve got some beautiful sights either across town, at the mountains to the East or to Cook Inlet to the West. There are a few great restaurants within a block of the Hilton (I love both Whiskey & Ramen and Tequila 63). I think staying at the Hilton Anchorage is a great idea for a more city-type stay.
Also, since it’s a Hilton property you can use/earn Hilton Honors points here. Another great thing about the Hilton Anchorage is the large fitness center and indoor swimming pool. I know a lot of people take a break from their workouts when they travel, but I like to keep it up. One other thing that made the Hilton Anchorage particularly nice was the amount of public space. There are places to meet people before heading out for the day (cafe or lobby) so you don’t need to find a warm, central location because you can just meet here.

Amenities at the Hilton Anchorage
The Hilton Anchorage is a complete hotel. You’ve got conference rooms, a nice restaurant, a cafe, an indoor swimming pool, a great gym and even onsite laundry room if you need it. I will say, the gym at the Hilton is well equipped with both ample cardio equipment and weight training options. There’s even a TRX training station and steam sauna. I travel a ton for work and I appreciate when hotels have great gyms.
The cafe just off the lobby, the Hooper Bay Cafe, serves coffee and grab-n-go breakfast and lunch items. The dining area next to the counter serves sit-down breakfast every day also. Bruins, the dinner restaurant at the Hilton Anchorage, is quite nice but not too fancy. I like it more for grabbing a drink, as there are better restaurants (in my opinion) just across the street, but it’s there if you need it.
Hilton Anchorage Room Types
You’ll find the standard room offerings of a Hilton hotel here, which is great. I love the consistency of staying in national travel brand hotels. The Hilton Anchorage rooms are nice size and because it’s such a tall building, most of them have some sort of cool view, either of a mural downtown or of the mountains. When it comes to the bed options, here’s what you can choose from:
- King – sleeps 2
- Two Doubles (not queens) – sleeps 4
- King Jr Suite (very large room w/ sitting area) – sleeps 4
- King 1 Bedroom Suite (separate bedroom) – sleeps 4
When you’re booking your room, you’ll be able to choose bed setup and view type, and then the room rates will vary per what you choose. I like the corner rooms the most because there’s so much light and you get a cool view. I’ve also had a non-corner room and those are fine too, but I really do prefer a corner.
Location of Hilton Anchorage
If you want to be close to downtown things to do or the Alaska Railroad Depot, you can’t beat the Hilton Anchorage’s location. Everything is walking distance from here, from restaurants to activities. The Dena’ina Center (convention center) is a ten minute walk, the Anchorage Museum is ten minutes, the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail is 15 minutes walking away.
Within a block or two, there are so many good restaurants. Tequila 61 and Whisky & Ramen are both just across the street, and then F Street Station and 49th State Brewing a few blocks away. It’s great to be able to have a day of work or exploring and then have great food so easily accessible. Okay, that’s actually the main selling point and why I really do like staying at the Hilton Anchorage.

More Things to do in Anchorage
I think Anchorage is a great city to visit, whether it’s the main area you choose to visit on your Alaska trip or it’s the jumping off point for an epic Alaska road adventure. Anchorage has changed a lot in the last 25 years (I still remember my first visit) and it’s become a city with great dining, interesting things to do within the city, and of course incredible nature just beyond downtown.
A visit to Anchorage needs to include activities like the Alaska Native Heritage Center, visiting Kincaid park for walking and wildlife watching, and enjoying some hiking outside of town. It’s really easy to add activities to your Anchorage visit both down on the Turnagain Arm (Seward Highway) or in Chugach State Park (Eklutna Lake and Thunderbird Falls). If you’re ever bored in Anchorage, you’re not paying attention.
Here are some things to do in Anchorage that can be added to part of your day when you visit, just in case you don’t have lots of time:
- Anchorage Museum
- Alaska Native Heritage Center
- rent bikes for the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail
- watch for beluga whales at the Anchorage Small Boat Launch
- day trip to Eklutna Lake and town site
- day trip to Portage or Whittier for a Prince William Sound adventure

Where to Eat in Anchorage
Let’s assume that you’re staying in the downtown area of Anchorage and you’re looking for a great meal. Well, there are lots of choices, but I’ve picked my favorites that are both solid Anchorage standards and are new and awesome.

- K Street Market – bakery, breakfast, lunch and cool shops
- F Street Station – vintage Anchorage with delicious food. And a cheese block.
- 49th State Brewing – busy but really good food and beer
- Tequila 61 – modern and trendy Mexican favorites w/ great cocktails
- Whisky & Ramen – fantastic Asian fusion food and craft cocktails
- Double Shovel Cider Co – not downtown, but it’s worth the visit for awesome ciders
Where to Stay in Anchorage
When you’re looking for a hotel in Anchorage, you’ll see that the city is broken into several areas with hotels mostly being in downtown, midtown and at the airport. If you’re just here for one night, any area will do, but for several days, downtown is the best area to stay because it’s such a walkable city. I enjoy staying in the hub of Anchorage activities because there are lots of things to do, restaurants and easy access to biking routes and the Alaska Railroad. Check out the options below.
I hope you’re excited to check out the Hilton Anchorage. I know you might hope for something more Alaskan downtown, but when it comes to consistency and comfort, this is a great option.
